Some tips
Below you will find a few explanations to help you choose.
Plug or jack?
A plug-type (male) connector is the one that surrounds the jack-type (female) connector. The jack-type connector generally has the external form of a threaded shaft, while the plug has that of a nut.
A few examples:
The following connectors are jack type:

and these are plug type:

Which connector type should I choose for my equipment?
Most equipment, such as access points, routers and PCI cards, uses jack-type connectors. You should therefore choose a cable fitted with a plug-type connector to connect to it. Laptop cards (PCMCIA/Cardbus interface) use specific connectors (MMCX, MCX, PC-Card) that are available in only one format. Outdoor antennas are often fitted with N female connectors when the connector is attached directly to the antenna. If the connector comes out of the antenna on a cable, it may be N female or N male (plug). For indoor antennas fitted with a cable, the connector is often RP-SMA plug type.Examples:
You are buying a Teltonika RUT950 router and a Mars MA-WA6960-DS7B outdoor antenna. The router has two SMA female connectors and the antenna has two N female connectors. You therefore need two cables with an SMA male connector at one end and an N male connector at the other.
